When we were children, every step we took or each skill we developed were made under the supervision of our parents that allowed us to choose the right path. As we grow up, our guidance or what we can exemplify as our “compasses” was not always the same. During life, our “compass” changes depending on which place we are submersed into: for lawyers, the constitution and the laws guide their actuation, while the guide of physicians or any health professional, nowadays, is the scientific evidence.

The constitution and laws are periodically reviewed and analyzed to detect possible mistakes or necessities of actualization as the society changes and advances. But who is responsible for identify and review the quality of the scientific evidence? Is there someone that studies the scientific ecosystem? Took too long to answer? Let us give you a hand. The correct answer is the metascience.

The metascience is literally the scientific study of the science, in other words, observe the scientific world with scientific eyes. As the conventional clinical research have “patients” as their study object, the metascience research patients are the “clinical researches”.

The Brazilian Metascience Research Group (BMRG) is an extension of the Center for Evidence Based Medicine of the Bahia School of Medicine and Public Health headquartered in Salvador, Bahia, that develop, reflect, discusses and divulgate metascience and evidence-based medicine. We have the mission to expose the actual condition of the scientific environment, with data and evidences, aiming the disturbance of the scientific community mind.
